Behind the Range: Blooming Marvellous

Updated: Oct 14, 2020

We thought it would be nice to share a behind the scenes look at how the new Blooming Marvellous range came together and what goes into designing a range of cards and wrap.

The idea for this range came from wanting to add some cards to compliment an existing wrap design. We quite like a set!

This wrap is very versatile and can be used for most celebratory occasions so we knew we wanted a card range that did the same. We wanted cards that celebrated birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and achievements and be full of heart and sentiment.

Every idea starts with a sketch so these were really roughly jotted down as and when they came. Sometimes this is led by imagery but sometimes by the wording that we want on the front.

So then the really rough ideas will be drawn out either larger in the sketchbook and then scanned in or drawn directly into Illustrator using a Wacom Tablet. It's the same with the wording. Either it is sketched out first or written directly onto the card digitally. This can often take longer than creating the illustrations as we're fussy about our handwriting!

We had an existing colour palette with this range as we wanted it to compliment the wrap. Usually, this is our favourite part as it creates endless possibilities and you can really experiment. It is just as fun working with an existing palette though as you know it works and so you can focus on the ideas instead.

These cards weren't initially designed to be gold foiled but it is a trend we are loving at the moment. It really elevated the designs and made the cards special. Some of the gold foiling is so delicate and really compliments the soft pastel colours of the cards.

So there you have it. A sneak peak of our design process. We are also launching some more wrap to go with the cards which I'll share in a future post. It's much the same process but we use repeat patterns and have to play with scale a lot.

We hope you like the range. There are 12 cards, 6 sheets of wrap with some tags in the pipeline. There will also be some writing sets to compliment the range.

Please let us know if there are any other products you want in the range and if there is enough demand - we'll get them into production!

Thanks for reading, Christine
